Discover the story behind Guild of Imagination—dedicated to safe, creative, and skill-building online experiences.

Turning Screen Time Into Skill Time

"Guild of Imagination’s mission is to empower kids to explore their creativity, embrace diverse perspectives, and encourage lifelong curiosity through immersive storytelling experiences."
"My son is on the spectrum and struggles to make friends and have conversations, but has an incredible imagination and has always been interested in D&D. We didn’t know where to start to even try to play or teach him, especially with the lack of friends or contacts that know the game. This class is absolutely perfect and just what we were looking for. The instructors/DMs are really great, engaging, and patient with my son. We've had to change class times due to scheduling conflicts, and they were accommodating and helpful in doing that. My son always looks forward to his D&D class every week, and hearing him use his imagination and engaging with other people is the best. We’re really happy to have found this class!"

How It All Began

My journey with D&D and VR started in the early 90s. I first heard about Dungeons & Dragons when Magic: The Gathering was released. My Uncle Chris had been a long-time player, and the idea of it sounded incredible to me. Unfortunately, without YouTube or online D&D clubs, it was tough to learn. My friends dismissed it, thinking a game with no board or cards must be boring. So, I didn’t actually play until I was an adult.
As for VR, I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of exploring distant lands and fantastical worlds that couldn’t exist in real life. My first experience was with the Nintendo Virtual Boy, a Christmas gift in the 90s. I remember my excitement as I unboxed it and pressed my face to the viewfinder. But then, the magic disappeared. The Virtual Boy was underwhelming, but it sparked a passion that stayed with me. Years later, when real VR technology emerged, I finally found the magic I had imagined as a kid.
By mid-2019, I was working a salaried sales job but feeling unfulfilled. I constantly searched for new opportunities to bring my passions into my work. That’s when I came across an article about a mom running online D&D games for kids as her full-time job. Skeptical but intrigued, I started researching. The more I learned, the more I realized this could be a dream come true. I already loved playing D&D with my own kids and their friends—why not share that with kids around the world?

In September 2019, I listed my first kids’ D&D club online. To my surprise and excitement, kids wanted to play! I started running regular clubs on nights and weekends, introducing D&D to kids everywhere.
By early 2020, I was contemplating leaving my job to pursue this full-time when COVID-19 changed everything. As the world shut down, I was furloughed and suddenly had the time to take a leap. I listed more D&D clubs online, and soon my schedule was packed. Work was thriving even as the world faced challenges, and my family and I navigated the uncertainty together.
That summer, I was called back to my job, and the familiar emptiness crept back in. I wasn’t playing as much D&D, and I knew: if I didn’t take the leap now, I might never do it. So, I gave my two-week notice and dove in, listing more clubs and waiting to see if I’d made a huge mistake.

I hadn’t. By 2021, I was running over 20 D&D clubs a week! It was amazing to see so many kids eager to play, but I was quickly running out of time and energy. That’s when I made one of the best decisions of my life: I started bringing on other Game Masters who shared my vision of creating safe, inclusive online spaces for kids to play and grow.

Mr Bird is everything I could ask for in a teacher: he cares about the kids and he genuinely loves what he teaches. A perfect combo.

My son always looks forward to his D&D class every week and hearing him use his imagination and engaging with other people is the best. He is getting more and more talkative and even when he doesn't talk alot, he always tells us about what adventure they had and all the details about what they did. We're really happy to have found this class!

Joe is doing a wonderful job teaching my 13 yr old about D&D. He is organized and provides tools and suggestions to start her journey off successfully. He is creative, and very kind. My daughter has enjoyed her lessons with Joe. We highly recommend his classes.

Corinne

My two boys, 11 and 13, LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. They love DandD and are in 4 hours a week. This is one of their favorite classes. Tom makes it fun! Guild of Imagination puts on great classes. The teachers have great communication with parents and kids. Mine love to "text" and ask questions about their characters and their development throughout the week. They always can not wait until the next class.
